UnitingCare’s Experience with Emergency Relief
When UnitingCare speaks about emergency relief, they are referring to being present when people can’t manage to get by, when they struggle because they have no disposable income and there’s nothing left by the middle of the week, and when they cannot access what people with disposable income take for granted.
Over recent years, research into the link between poor material circumstances and health and well-being has provided compelling evidence that the social meaning of being poor, of being unemployed, of being socially excluded or otherwise stigmatised has profound effects on health and well-being.
